Textile Designer
Based in the city of Nishiwaki in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture, Maruman is a manufacturer specializing in yarn-dyed cotton fabrics. Nishiwaki is located in the heart of the Banshu production area, with a history of over two centuries. Fabrics woven here are known as “Banshu-ori,” and the Banshu area has flourished as a center for international export to various countries, including the United States, Asia, and South America.
Presently, Maruman’s forte lies in the texture quality of its fabrics, which are essentially made to order for our clients, as per their requests specified through our order and manufacturing system. Though we work mainly with cotton, we develop textiles using all sorts of materials including paper, cupro tencel, and hemp linen. We have earned the deep trust of Japanese and European brands for our intricately designed Jacquard fabrics, and are committed to attentive craftsmanship, working in close and detailed collaboration with fashion designers.
Japan is home to regions producing a variety of materials (such as cotton, wool, washi paper, and synthetic fibers) that are unparalleled in the rest of the world. Even as the country faces the challenge of a dearth of successors, there are many areas where these techniques are continuously being bequeathed. Along with our own company’s products, we are very pleased to be able to introduce you to unique, high-quality fabrics from across Japan. We sincerely hope that you will be able to gain a sense of our stellar technical capabilities and our spirit of enthusiasm for monozukuri, the Japanese philosophy of craftsmanship, through your experience with our products.
